Clay
GTM data and workflow orchestration
A spreadsheet that fetches your GTM data for you, worth it when one person owns it and watches the meter.
RevOps and GTM engineers who want to design their own enrichment and waterfall across many providers instead of betting on one.
Two meters run at once, Actions and Data Credits, plus what the underlying providers charge, so the bill grows faster than the plan price suggests.
Reach for it when the job is making GTM data repeatable across systems. If you only need a clean list, it is overkill.
What you're actually getting
At its heart Clay is a table. Each row is a company or a person, and each column runs an action: find an email, score the lead, pull funding history, draft a line of outreach.
The clever part is the waterfall. It tries one data provider after another until something comes back, so match rates climb without you babysitting every row.
Clay sits closer to infrastructure than to an app you just open. It lives next to your CRM and your sequencer and moves data between them. You build it, and it does not arrive pre-built.
It's easy to use, basically excel on steroids. It's the most amazing tool on the market nowadays. Makes my job way easier.
Where it earns its keep
When one person owns it, Clay pays off fast. Waterfall enrichment beats staking everything on a single vendor being right that day.
The sweet spot is real GTM plumbing: scoring a list before reps touch it, routing inbound leads to the right owner, enriching a messy webinar export in minutes.
G2 sits at 4.7 across 213 reviews and TrustRadius at 9.3, both praising enrichment, automation, and waterfall coverage.
It's a spreadsheet with every column is an integration, so whatever you want to do. If you want to understand a tech stack of a company … it's just so easy.
Where it'll bite you
Cost is the first trap. Two meters run at once, Actions and Data Credits, plus whatever the underlying providers charge on top. A stray auto-refresh or an unbounded waterfall can eat the budget before you see anything useful.
Start with 20 rows, not 2,000, and leave auto-update off until you trust the build.
One-person dependency is the second. Clay is deep enough that one sharp person can build a machine nobody else on the team can read. Make them document the provider order and hand it to a second operator before you lean on it in production. The unclaimed Trustpilot profile sits at 2.4, heavy on support, bug, and credit complaints.
pricing is too high for me and there credit system is somewhat messy like its unpredicatble to get how I much credit will be used for the enrichment
What it costs, really
There is a free tier to kick the tires, 500 Actions and 100 Data Credits a month. Paid starts at $167/mo for Launch and $446 for Growth, with Enterprise custom.
The sticker price is the smallest part. The real cost is credits burned across providers, and a fully enriched record often runs 6 to 20 Data Credits, so price your own pilot before trusting anyone else's number.
So there are pros, but if you're an engineer, you'll really enjoy working with Clay.
I hate how they auto turn on options that you don't need making you spend credits.
