SparkToro
Audience research for marketing channels
The fastest way to find where a specific audience actually spends its attention, as long as you treat the result as a channel map and not proof of demand.
Teams choosing where to show up before spending budget: podcasts to sponsor, newsletters to pitch, and the subreddits and accounts their audience already follows.
Affinity is not intent. It shows who your audience follows, not whether they are ready to buy, and coverage is English-speaking US, UK, and Canada only.
Reach for it to prioritize channels and partners, then confirm demand separately with interviews, reviews, or a live test.
What you're actually getting
Describe an audience in plain English, like "B2B marketing leaders at SaaS companies in the US," or start from a website, keyword, or social account. SparkToro returns a report ranking where that audience shows up: websites, podcasts, YouTube channels, subreddits, apps, the accounts they follow, their bio language, even the topics they ask AI assistants about.
The rankings are relative to your audience, not global popularity, so a small niche podcast can top the list because your specific people over-index on it. Behind it sits anonymized clickstream data plus public professional profiles.
It describes groups, never named individuals, and hands you a directional map to act on. It is a research layer, not a CRM or a contact database.
I particularly like the 'Hidden Gems' feature to discover side interests or more obscure influencers. That has sent me off on some very interesting tangents and led me to some useful resources for growing my products.
Where it earns its keep
The sweet spot is deciding where to spend attention before committing budget. Finding podcasts and newsletters worth sponsoring, spotting the hidden-gem sources bigger tools miss, and building a partner or digital-PR outreach list.
One agency in SparkToro's own case work reported saving close to 20 hours per project on this research, and independent reviewers echo the core draw: it turns a broad audience description into a workable channel map fast.
it's a super powerful tool for figuring out where your audiences are online. It can be a little less useful if you work with hyper-niche sectors (like, I'm in higher education, and it's not terribly useful for me).
Where it'll bite you
Affinity is not intent. It shows who your audience follows, not what they will buy. One practitioner spent $400 and walked away frustrated because he wanted product validation and got a following map. Use it to pick channels, then confirm demand with interviews, reviews, or a real campaign.
Coverage is narrow. The data reliably covers English-speaking audiences in the US, Canada, and UK, and very narrow niches get noisy enough to look more precise than they are. Ask whether your market is covered before you pay, and run a broad audience next to a narrow one to see how much the signal holds.
sparktoro is great for pr outreach and influencer discovery. it's terrible for product validation
What it costs, really
Free gives 3 reports a month with preview data. Personal is $50/month for 4 reports and full data. Business is $150/month for 25 reports, ten seats, Take Action, and Persona Builder. Agency is $300/month for 250 reports and SSO.
The real meter is reports, and a team that iterates burns the low tiers faster than it expects. The homepage still advertises $38/month, but the live pricing page says $50, so trust the pricing page.
