Enterprise cross-channel customer engagement

Last updated August 19, 2026
The take

The category benchmark for cross-channel lifecycle marketing, worth it only if you have a mobile-first consumer app, a dedicated CRM team, and a six-figure budget.

Great for

Mobile-first consumer brands with 100K+ MAU who need real-time, event-driven messaging across push, email, in-app, and SMS from one canvas.

The catch

No published pricing, no self-serve. Contracts typically start at $50K to $60K per year, implementation runs 3 to 6 months, and you need engineers to wire it up.

Bottom line

Reach for it when lifecycle marketing is core to your business and you have the team to run it. Under $50K MRR or email-only, it is overkill.

What you're actually getting

Braze is a customer engagement platform built mobile-first. It orchestrates email, push, in-app messages, SMS, WhatsApp, and content cards from one dashboard, triggered by real-time user behavior instead of fixed schedules.

The centerpiece is Canvas, a visual drag-and-drop journey builder. You map multi-step, branching flows that split, wait, test, and redirect based on what a user actually does next. Onboarding sequences, win-back campaigns, transactional alerts, all in one canvas.

Braze sits closer to infrastructure than a tool you just open. It ingests event streams from your app via SDKs, decides who gets what message, and fires it in seconds. You need engineering to instrument the events and a CRM team to design the journeys.

I use Braze to manage all forms of communication for our application. We use this to drive user engagement across different areas of the platform and to advance commercial priorities while promoting a strong user experience. Braze allows us to bridge a communication gap with limited in-person hours from our field sales teams.

Where it earns its keep

It shines when mobile is core to your business. Gaming, fintech, streaming, on-demand, QSR, the brands on Braze's roster all live and die by app engagement.

The real-time trigger engine is the standout. A user abandons a cart, crosses a usage threshold, or hits a behavioral milestone, and the next message fires within seconds. G2 reviewers consistently describe replacing static drip sequences with journeys that adapt as they run.

Braze also earns its place when your data lives in a warehouse. Zero-copy data sharing with Snowflake and BigQuery means you can segment and personalize without reverse-ETL, and Currents streams behavioral data back out to your analytics stack.

I use Braze as an all in one customer engagement platform for major touchpoints. This cuts across email marketing, SMS, push notifications, in app banners, content cards all automated through Braze. Before now, this would have to be tracked on different platforms but with Braze, I am able to meet my users where they are, track communications with them with detailed reporting, reduce churn across touchpoints and ensure that a user is engaged throughout their lifecycle.

Where it'll bite you

Pricing is the first wall. No published prices, no self-serve, no free plan. Contracts typically start at $50K to $60K per year and climb with MAU and message volume. Enterprise deals routinely hit seven figures. You negotiate everything with sales.

Implementation is the second. Expect 3 to 6 months and a one-time fee of $25K to $100K+ before you send a single campaign. SDK integration, event tracking setup, data model design, canvas workflow builds, often partner-led. Most teams do not see ROI until well into year two.

The reporting gap is the third. G2 reviewers in April 2026 flag that Braze's analytics feel basic for the price. Many teams end up piping data into Tableau or Looker, adding cost and engineering overhead. Segmentation also has limits, pushing some teams to add a CDP like Segment or Hightouch on top.

Custom integrations, such as sending personalised content via their API, are expensive and don't handle high volumes well when you need to operate at scale.

What it costs, really

There is no sticker price. Braze sells four editions, Go, Select, Pro, Enterprise, each custom-quoted. The bill is built from two levers: your Monthly Active Users and Action Credits spent on messages, channels, and AI features.

Third-party benchmarks put entry contracts around $50K to $60K per year for 100K to 500K MAU, mid-market at $100K to $500K, and enterprise at $500K to $5M+. An AWS Marketplace listing shows 100K MAU, 5M emails, and 750K US SMS at $75,000 per year, with overages at $0.01 per unit. Budget for implementation on top, and do not expect to see ROI in year one.

Braze is a great CRM tool that make life mostly easier. Overall, having Braze as part of the tech stack where I work has been a net positive. The layout is intuitive, easy to use and well defined. Braze documentation on their website is pretty detailed and helpful, and their dedicated solutions consultants are quite helpful. Overall a useful CRM tool, with good UI/UX and overall good experience, with a few key areas for small improvement

There needs to be countdowns and movable ink-like features available for us to use in emails.
