Developer-friendly lifecycle email for SaaS

Last updated August 23, 2026
The take

The cleanest email platform built specifically for SaaS, worth it when your product team wants marketing, lifecycle, and transactional email in one tool and can live without complex branching.

Great for

SaaS and product-led teams who want one customer record driving marketing broadcasts, lifecycle sequences, and transactional sends, with a developer-friendly API on top.

The catch

No visual branching workflow builder. Complex multi-path automations feel clunky in the flat sequence model, and the jump from free to $49 has no step in between.

Bottom line

Reach for it when email is part of the product and simplicity beats automation depth. Skip it if you need Customer.io-class branching or e-commerce segmentation.

What you're actually getting

Loops is an email platform built only for software companies. Marketing broadcasts, lifecycle sequences, and transactional email live in one product on one customer record, so your list stops being scattered across three vendors.

The editor works like Notion-style blocks, and emails render reliably across Gmail, Outlook, and the rest. Sending runs on proven Amazon SES infrastructure with dedicated IPs at higher tiers. Every dashboard action has an API equivalent, with Node and Python SDKs.

In 2026 Loops shipped an agent surface with a Claude connector, so an agent can draft emails, orchestrate workflows, and manage themes from a chat thread. The direction is code-first and agent-first, aimed squarely at product-led teams.

I've been testing Loops.so extensively over the past weeks, and it stands out as one of the most robust and well-designed email tools I've used in years. If email plays any role in your acquisition, onboarding, or client communication, this is a platform worth paying attention to.

Where it earns its keep

It earns its keep when email is part of the product experience. Onboarding flows, trial-to-paid nudges, usage-milestone triggers, and dunning all hang off the same event stream your app already emits.

The pricing model is the second win. Unlimited sends on every paid plan, billed only on subscribed contacts, with unlimited team seats. Heavy-sending products stop getting punished for volume the way they do on metered platforms.

First-hand reports from founders in 2025-26 consistently call out deliverability, even on fresh domains and Outlook inboxes, as the thing that surprised them most.

It is not designed to replace heavy enterprise marketing automation tools. If you need advanced visual branching, CRM-level data models, or deeply complex automations, you may eventually hit limitations. But for 80% of businesses that need efficient, reliable email communication, Loops is more than sufficient, and often superior because of its focus and simplicity.

Where it'll bite you

The automation ceiling is the trap. Sequences are linear, with no visual branching workflow builder. Multi-path logic like "opened A, didn't click, on the Pro plan" gets awkward fast, and teams coming from Customer.io or Encharge feel it first.

The free-to-paid jump is steep. Free caps you at 4,000 sends a month with a Powered by Loops footer, and the next step is $49 with nothing in between. There is no annual discount either, so the band price is what you pay.

A first-hand report from August 2026 flagged a quieter gotcha: the API contact-create endpoint ignores the dashboard double-opt-in toggle, so contacts pushed through the API are subscribed on the spot. Loops also actively declines certain B2B verticals to protect deliverability, which is transparent but frustrating if you are the one declined.

I wanted double opt-in on the form… Loops has a setting on the dashboard for that, so I switched it on. But when I started testing the flow, no confirmation email ever arrived. The address went straight onto the list… I eventually realized that their API endpoint for creating a contact ignores the setting. The toggle only applies to their form endpoints, and anything you push through the API gets subscribed on the spot.

What it costs, really

Free covers 1,000 contacts and 4,000 sends a month with branding. Paid starts at $49/mo for 5,000 contacts, then $99 for 10,000, $199 for 25,000, scaling up the published slider to about $3,999/mo at 1,000,000 contacts. Enterprise is custom above that.

The number that drives the bill is subscribed contact count, not sends. Sends are unlimited on every paid tier, and team seats are free, so a heavy-sending product team does not get penalized for activity. The real cost control is pruning dead contacts to hold a lower band.

I have tried every most Email platforms for software notifications & updates… I'm really impressed, it seems like Loops is the best in deliverability hands down even with outlook inboxes were talking about fresh domains. … I'm transferring everything there

Loops really is solid – been seeing more teams quietly switch over. that deliverability edge matters way more than people admit
